2019 Bevan Cellars Sentinel Ridge Vineyard Proprietary Red – 750ml

2019 Bevan Cellars Sentinel Ridge Vineyard Proprietary Red – 94+ pts

Bevan Cellars is a producer of Napa Valley and Sonoma wines based in Bennett Valley. It sources fruit from vineyards across the two major wine regions to produce small-lot wines made primarily of Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Cabernet Sauvignon. Bevan Cellars’ full-bodied, richly flavored wines score high with the press, making them highly coveted by collectors, and usually only available on allocation.

The estate was founded by Russell Bevan and Victoria De Crescenzo in 2005. Before relocating to California, the two made regular trips to Napa Valley where they met and were mentored by esteemed winemakers Philip Togni and Bob Foley.

Bevan Cellars is most famous for its red wines made from Cabernet Sauvignon, both varietal and as part of a Bordeaux blend. These wines include the Sugar Loaf Mountain Red, the Tin Box, and the McGah Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon, all of which have been awarded 100-point scores by American wine critic Robert Parker

Robert Parker 94+ RP – Sourced from two acres on Howell Mountain, the 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon Sentinel Ridge features scents of pencil shavings, sage and bay leaf, set against a backdrop of cassis fruit. Full-bodied and softly dusty, it’s still noticeably Howell Mountain in structure but tamed somewhat, presumably by Bevan’s practice of early, thorough leaf-plucking to expose the fruit. Yet it still has a certain mountain austerity when compared to Bevan’s plush valley-floor wines.
